Town Council Grants
Under the Local Government Act 1972 s137, Church Stretton Town Council is able to provide grants from its annual budget to support the work of voluntary groups within the town and the villages of All Stretton Little Stretton and Minton. Church Stretton Town Council has set aside £10,000 each financial year for this purpose.
Every quarter £2500 pounds will be available for allocation so that applications can be submitted throughout the year. Submission dates for grants are 31 March, 30 June, 30 September and 31 December. The applications will be decided at meetings of the finance committee the month after submission.
Local groups applying for these grants must demonstrate that the proposed funding will benefit local people living in Church Stretton and the surrounding villages of All Stretton, Little Stretton and Minton in one of the following areas:
- sport or other form of recreation
- education or cultural enrichment
- health or wellbeing
- other voluntary services
Grants cannot be given out to individuals. Organisations applying for grants must have a bank account in their own name with at least two representatives required to authorise payments.
It should be remembered that the Council’s funds are limited and so applications may not be met in full, or at all. These grants will only fund a portion and not the total cost of a project of service. For grants in excess of £1,000 for a single project or in excess of £1,000 per year for service support, the Council will normally only fund a maximum of 50% of the total cost.
In addition, the Council will not normally fund the cost of wages or salaries of people directly employed by the organisation seeking the grant. Full guidance is provided in the documents below.
