“ The Town Council warmly welcomes this initiative by the Rotary Club to create a “ Young Hero’s Award” to recognise the contribution that young people make towards the well-being of our community.”Cllr Bob Welch, Mayor of Church Stretton Town Council
Do You Know any Young People worthy of an Award?
Do you know a young person aged between 6 and 18, living in South Shropshire, who has made a significant contribution to their community, or supported an individual or family member through an act of selflessness, bravery or sustained effort, over the last 18 months? Then the Rotary Club would love to hear more about it. And the youngster may win a financial reward.
How to Nominate a Young Person
Anyone can nominate someone. You just need to know them and then fill in the online form and tell us what they have done.
We are planning to hold the awards ceremony in the middle of April, however the format for this will depend on the restrictions in force at the time.
More about the Award
We at the Rotary Club have discussed for some time the idea of starting an award to celebrate and recognise work that young people do and their commitment to it. We decided that because of the difficulties with the Covid situation now would be an ideal time to start the scheme.
Young people have been as affected as much as any but this pandemic has created opportunities for them to support family, friends and the community, often with no acknowledgement and certainly no reward.
We are hoping to find examples of bravery, selflessness or a sustained commitment in supporting someone whether a family member or another member of the community.
Anyone can Nominate
Anyone, not just parent/guardian, relative, neighbour or youth leader, who knows a young person who has supported the community, and believes that they should be recognised for their actions.
We are really excited about this new Awards Scheme and hope that as many young people are nominated as possible.Peter Burt, Youth Team Leader, Rotary Club of Church Stretton (email supplied)
