Our aim is to:-
• celebrate: sporting, arts and leisure identity of the Church Stretton Area – a chance to show the public what is available
• strengthen community relations: sharing ideas and building a better network and understanding of each other’s sport and leisure organization
• celebrate and showcase the wealth of clubs and organizations in the Church Stretton Area: a chance to promote membership of clubs and the Leisure Centre
• provide taster sessions for the public: a programme of events for the public to ‘have a go’ and enjoy sport, arts and leisure.
This is your opportunity to visit a showcase of static displays, demonstrations and public participation, and to celebrate the sporting, leisure, art and cultural opportunities in the Church Stretton area.
Connection between humanitarian causes and sport
We have this year expanded our aims to connect local sport, leisure and culture activities to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Barrie Oxtoby who is leading on this part of the Games says “The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
The UN regards sport as an important enabler for sustainable development. Therefore, sport has a key role to play in achieving the SDGs by 2030. In Church Stretton, we are rich in variety and quality of sport to be showcased at the Games. The connection between humanitarian causes and sport will be made clear. We’ve much to be proud of already”
